Fable 2/Dead Space

•October 23, 2008 • 2 Comments

So having convinced myself that i’m not going to get pulled in by Fable and buy it on release, and instead wait for my birthday, i’ve given in and will hopefully be picking it up tomorrow. God my willpower is weak. Most of my fellow bloggers (Davey, Nokkon and Haly) will all be playing it as well, so we can all mess about in eachothers worlds. Hell, I may even steal Nokkons wife.

Having played the first one about 2 years ago, I can’t really remember a hell of a lot about it, but with the second being set 500 years into the future, and don’t think it’ll make a huge amount of difference to the story. At least, I hope not.

Unfortunatley, I don’t really have a spare £40 lying around, so chances are, i’m gonna have to bite the bullet with some old games, and hope they get me to at least half the cost. Problem being, the newest game I own is Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, which will be worth about a tenner now, and the rest of my games are all in the region of a year old, or were presents, and I just can’t sell presents.

Moving onto Dead Space, I love the look of this game. The graphics look awesome, the audio sounds awesome, the location is awesome, the enemies look awesome, the dis-memberment is awesome. Everything about this game is awesome, save for one thing. It’s a jumpy game, and i’m a bloody coward.

My problem is that due to a very, very active imagination, I can conjure up almost anything, so if I see a 6 armed monster with 3 legs and 14 eyes in a video game, it’s damn sure gonna be in my head for the rest of the night. This is my problem with Dead Space, even though the creatures don’t have 6 arms, 3 legs and 14 eyes, they still look scary as hell. If I play this, I will get scared, I will jump, and I will probably shit my pants. Unfortunatley, that’s the way i’m designed, heck, I STILL haven’t completed the Condemned demo, even though i’ve seen numerous videos of it and know what happens when.

Back to Dead Space, it’s a game that really interests me, but sadly, what with being a coward, i’ll probably never even get as far as taking it to the counter in a shop, let alone completing it. I’ve seen probably some of the most jumpy parts, so hopefully in a years time when i’ve watched the levels over and over, and could tell someone exactly how to do what backwards, I may have the guts to buy it, but sadly, I fear i’m destined to be a coward.

Halo 3 – Meta-game finished

Well that was rather tedious. Playing through all the levels wasn’t so bad (except the peultimate one) but getting the fine balance of skulls right so that the enemies were never too hard, but would provide enough points. In the end, I just decided to stick on about 6 skulls, giving me a 10x multiplyer, meaning I never really had to worry about time. I was averaging 2x the required score on each level, including the 50k ones, which I got at least 100k on.

The only problem is that at the start, I had the silver skulls on as well, except Blind. As some of you may know, one of these skulls makes explosions bigger…not smart when the enemy are throwing nades every 5 seconds. So that was quickly turned off, and it made everything so much easier. Aside from that, nothing ever really became difficult.

The only achievements left in the original 1k are the online ones, which isn’t too bad, so I can do them quite easily, then hopefully I can get the Vidmaster achievements for doing the final level with the iron skull on legendary, but i’ll have to find some friends to help out with that. Nokkon has already agreed to help, and i’m thankful, providing he doesn’t use the shotgun again….

Horray!

Well, after many months of trying, this finally happend.

I was so happy when the little ping happened at the end, before the BRE even kicked in. It was a nice feeling. I now have over half the setlist gold starred, and most of the bonus songs. I should hopefully have it done in the future, but with RB2 coming in under 2 months, it may be a challenge to keep myself away from that.

Blue Dragon – A lesson in searching

•October 1, 2008 • 1 Comment

I’m not normally a big fan of RPG games, and i’m even less of a fan of JRPG’s. However, when I noticed Blue Dragon as part of a 5 for £25 deal at a local game retailing outlet, I thought I may as well try it out.

It started out pretty well, killing a few things and leveling up, but after about an hour, I realised I had absolutley no idea what to do or where to go. I was recommended to pick up Primas guide, so I went and downloaded it from the Prima online store for £5. This thing is a god send, it has all the achievements in, all the missable enemies and items, and basically, what the hell to do. I would recommend this to anyone who plays BD.

There is so much to find in BD that I would have probably missed most of it had I not read the guide. I was getting quite bored with BD fairly quickly as it was just the same over and over and over (kinda obvious really for an RPG), but after playing it for about 5-6 hours, I became really involved in it, and i’m really enjoying it. Sure I only have 80 points in 14 hours, which is about the same as Rumble Roses, but I really don’t care at the moment. I’m nearing the end of disc 2, and can’t wait for disc 3 to see how the story unfolds and finishes.

After this, i’m probably going to punish myself more by grabbing Infinite Undiscovery/ Eternal Sonata and complete them.

I must be mad.

Dimitar Berbatov/ Transfer Deadline Day

•September 1, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Firstly, this is just ridiculous. After being linked with Berbatov for the past god knows how long, transfer deadline day comes, and all of a sudden, Man City get taken over by billionaires and put in a £30m + bid for him, which gets accepted. That just throws everything into confusion.

Over the course of the day, things go back and forth and as it stands at the moment, Berbatov is having a medical at Man Utd, and then supposedly going to talk to City. I’m so confused, but i’ll update later with what happens.

In other news, Spurs have signed Pavlyuchenko and Corluka, Everton have signed Saha (praise the lord!) and Man City have signed, with their massive new wealth…no-one.

Update

Well the window has closes, and United have completed the signing of Berbatov for around £30m, with Frazier Campell going to Spurs on loan for the season.

The more shocking news is that Man City have managed to pinch Robinho from under the noses of Chelsea, which I find absolutley brilliant. Even better, the two clubs face each other in their next game. That’ll be intresting to watch. The deals worth in the region of £34m, and a supposed £92,000 a week, so much for the credit crunch. It’ll be intresting to see what City get up to in January.

If more Arabic buyers come into the Premiership, it should make the league more competitive, with other teams challenging the top four…provinding Arsenal and Liverpool don’t get bought out.

I’m sure there will be more deals announced in the morning, but in the mean time, bed calls and the idea of Lego Star Wars is floating around in my brain.

Achievement update

Well after the fiasco that was thursday night, I managed to redeem myself and finally obtain the 50 wins in a row achievement on SVR07.

Now all I have to do is beat the entire roster…again! :(

WET – Preview

•August 29, 2008 • Leave a Comment

I picked up a copy of 360 gamer today and briefly read through it, only reading about the games I was intrested in. However, when I gave it to my brother, he picked up on a game called WET, which he thought looked pretty good.

Being the curious kind of person, I jumped onto ign to have a look at what it’s all about and it doesn’t look too bad. There’s not a lot of information about it at the moment, but from what there is, you can get a good idea what the game will be like.

You take control of a character called Rubi, a woman who will do any job providing the money is right. Framing, protection, assassination, anything. She is a problem fixer, she finds a problem, she fixes it, job done. The general gist of the story, is that she has been enlisted by a wealthy business man to help find his son, but in turn, he betrays her and now she’s on the run, leaving piles of bodies in her wake.

From the trailer, it appear to be a cross between the platforming of Tomb Raider, the swordsmanship of Ninja Gaiden, and the gunplay of…..erm…well, she slides around a lot.

The title was put into doubt following Activisions purchase of Sierra and subsquently dropping it, but after hearing good things about it from Leipzig, one can only hope that somewhere, a publisher is in talks to pick it up. There is currently a projected release date of Q1 2009 in the US

Me = pillock

This evening, myself and Nokkon Wud were going for the 50 consecutive wins on Smackdown vs Raw 2007. Having been working towards it for a good 2 hours, we finally came to my 50th match. All I had to do was run at him, clothesline him, and pin him. Simple huh?

Wrong.

I decided it would be a fantastic idea to go outside the ring, grab a steel chair (see where i’m going with this?) and twat him over the head. Now, it may be the lack of sleep, or the several pints of alcohol i’d consumed earlier, but the thought of a DQ hadn’t entered my head. I then proceded to take the steel chair, and whack the noggin of one Mr Kurt Angle. At this point, I was laughing….it lasted all of 5 seconds. The match stopped, and a nice little DQ logo appeared on my screen.

I was silent, save for one little muttering on msn to Nokkon.

“Shit.”

After working towards it for over 2 hours, it was all undone in 5 seconds. We proceded to complete the next match giving me the 50 wins achievements and defend the title 50 times, but the 50 in a row eluded me, by 1 measley win.

We’re now working towards Nokkon getting the achievement, I just hope he’s smarter than me and chooses not to pick up a weapon, otherwise a post like this may appear on his blog very soon.

Fuck Yea!

Gears of War – COG Tags

•January 4, 2007 • 4 Comments

Recover all of the COG tags (on any difficulty) [Gears Of War - 30pts]
Woo! Today I finally got all of the COG tags in GoW. Not the hardest achievement in the world but take a bit of time to find them all. Admitidly again, I did get a bit of help by using a guide, but the majority of them are easy to find once you notice the big red gear sprayed on something, normally a wall or a van. Some of them are quite hard to find, such as one near the beginning of act 3 which involves going round a building that you don’t need to go round, then down a peir. Wouldn’t have found that without a bit of a guide. There’s a couple of good guides for the tags going about. One of the guys over at xbox360achievements.org made a list saying where each of them are located. There is also a youtube video showing the area of the tags….and here it is.

As you can see, some of them are a bit more obsure than others, but the majority of them are easy to find.

I think tomorrow might be a nice long GoW day on ranked matches. I spent about an hour this morning playing and got a couple of kills, and played for another hour this evening, but got my ass handed to me by Americans. Oh well, it’s enjoyable listening to them go on about how they ‘0wn3d’ you….before quiting when you kill them. I fucking hate American gamers. With any luck I should get the 10,000 kills before the years out, though that does mean averaging 28 kills a day. It doesn’t sound too hard, but it’s just having the patience to do it.

Current GoW kills at time of post: 37/10,000 (0.37%)
